On the recent Podcast Brothers, Tim and Emile address the recent Slashdot article, “Will Twitter Join Podcasting on the ‘Net Sidelines’?”

The brothers conclude, is this kind of service [podcasting] of any value: “If it’s valuable to you, and accomplishes your goals, then that’s all that really matters.”
I share their sentiment which I’ve had since the beginning of podcasting, which is why I continue working with on the MouseStation podcast. While we want to build our audience, I don’t have dreams of building the next blockbuster show.

The question the author of the article assumes that Twitter and Podcasting are on the Net Sidelines. The question is irrelevant. If you look at Twitter users and independent podcast producers, we find that they are using the technology to voice their message sent to a niche audience. While it’s fun to build an audience, it is unlikely they will become the next Slashdot or Boing Boing. But who cares?

I was curious to see if Sony had ever released an upgrade to their HiMD drivers for Mac and found they had an update dated 7/15/2006. I downloaded and installed it and found that since that time, we’ve been able to download ATRAC3 audio from the MiniDisc recorder to the Mac. Not only that, it translates the audio to .WAV. But wait! There’s more! You can download from the MiniDisc recorder multiple times

I found it at the Sony Support Site Enter the model number, such as MZ-M10 or MZ-M100 and it should take you to the driver download page for the device.

I don’t know how this slipped under the radar. I might be able to understand why Sony hasn’t made a big deal about it, but a Google search under the obvious terms didn’t turn up much. I think it’s a compelling reason to use HiMD for recording conferences, lectures, and speeches.

Since April, I’ve been working as a post-production engineer for the then Conversations Network, now GigaVox Media where I clean up and edit audio from technical an business conferences for publication to the various Gigavox channels such as IT Conversations and the Social Innovations Channels. I’ve also been producing the podcasts for Life Covenant Church.

Now, after a four year absence, I’ve returned to MousePlanet to take on the role of audio engineer for MousePlanet on their new podcast which launched today. It’s my first double-ender, were the hosts record their audio tracks separately. I have to synchronize the tracks and merge them together before I can edit and clean up the audio. The synchronization and merging process went surprisingly smoothly. I didn’t have to do any stretching of either file to make sure they stayed in sync – not bad for 40 minutes of audio.

The MousePlanet Podcast stars hosts Mark Goldhaber, Mike Demopoulos along with West Coast correspondent Andrew Rich. The show features highlights and news from the MousePlanet web site, which covers Disney theme park news.

Congratulations to Mark, Mike, and Andrew for job well done!

This is what passes for a podcast at the USOC. Podcast? Not!!! It is a page of articles that link to m3u files, which are not playlists. At least they are stored at the Internet Archive. If this were a true podcast, the USOC would provide an RSS link to which people could subscribe. Instead, you get a playlist.

Dear USOC – Don’t call it a podcast if you can’t automatically download it and play it on your mobile MP3 player.
